From David Graham

On Sunday 10th April David Graham, Kiama Tennis Club Board member, attended a Corrilee Foundation tennis charity event at Manly Tennis Club with funds going to the North Shore Cancer Research Centre. David was invited by an old friend Jan Lehane (O’Neill) former Australian Ladies singles finalist who is currently in ill health. John Alexander and Tony Roche participated in on court tennis matches on the day along with Leslie Bowrey (two times French Open Champion) as well as Judy Teggart (Dalton) 8 times grand Slam Doubles Champion. Alan Jones 2 GB Radio announcer and tennis supporter conducted a sponsor auction with the final amount of funds raised to be announced later this week. David Graham came third in the mens event with 30 games scored and received some Babolat clothing items for his efforts. “I really enjoyed my match against Tony Roche, one of the nicest guys you would ever meet”

David combined with Anton Enus, the SBS Newsreader to win 9/2 in Round three over a highly ranked younger pair to bolster his total games scored.

Ken Rosewall and Mark Edmondson also attended the event to support Jan Lehane who is now 75 years of age.

From Mark Mitchell

My name is Mark or “Marky Mark” as the kids call me and I welcome you to our very slick, engaging and fun filled Jumping Beings multi-sports program! We are very happy to announce that we will open on Saturdays at 9am at the Kiama Blowhole tennis club from the 30/04/2016.

We teach energised beings from 2.5 to 5 years old 12 different sports over the school term. Each class at MM&JB is run outdoors on the Blowhole tennis courts in Kiama. Our classes run for an hour, once a week during the school term. Our team brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the sports program, not only assisting in all areas of the developmental process but also creating a foundation for children to take with them for a better future.

We are about having fun, making friends, keeping healthy and learning something new. We want your kids to talk about their class all week and we want them to make exercise a regular part of their weekly or daily routine. Our teachers LOVE what they do and we know it reflects on the energy of the class, helping to keep our program ‘FULL OF BEINGS’.

As this is Jumping Being’s first term in the Kiama area we are offering a 50% discount for all new clients for the whole term. Ulladulla Seniors

Posted

By David Graham

The popular Ulladulla Seniors tennis tournament was held last weekend with rainy weather on Saturday afternoon interrupting the days play.

Allan Cocks played some very solid tennis winning the 140 Combined Mens Doubles with Stewart Dawson from Dapto. Allan and Stewart also performed well in the 65/70 Doubles being placed second behind Cliff Maisey (Jamberoo) and Charlie Sugar. On the Saturday afternoon the weather turned a little nasty with steady showers finally bringing matches to a halt but not before Allan and  partner Narelle Winter had won two out of three sets in the 120/140 Mixed doubles.

Kiama pair Rod Callaghan and John Zimmer (from Jamberoo) played some tough pairs in the 65 Mens Doubles. John and Rod combined well but were a little out of luck losing a couple of big break points. The pair in the round robin were placed equal 3rd with two other pairs which indicated just how even all 5 pairs were.

David Graham and Mary Baker from North Ryde (a scratch pair) lost their first mixed 5/3 and were faced with an almost impossible task to win their last match 7/1or better. Both players combined well to win 8/0 and take the 95 Mixed doubles.

Sunday afternoon matches were abandoned.
