On Sunday the 31st August the George Fletcher and Life Members Cup teams travelled to Leumeah for the semi finals of the prestigious NSW Hardcourt Interdistrict competition.
The George Fletcher Cup team had little trouble overcoming their opponents from Nepean winning the first 6 sets with ease. Mark Coleman, Owen Rice, Todd Austin and Dave Lehman far to strong.
In the Life Members Cup the Kiama team got off to a bad start with Mark and David Graham squandering a 4/1 lead to lose the first set 6/4. Ross Smith and David Jones struggled and finally won 7/6 in a close tie break to level the match.
Ross Smith and David Graham combined well to secure a 6/2 win to take a narrow advantage. With Kiama leading the match 3 sets to 2 and the result on a knife edge Ross and Mark fought hard to win a tie break to gain the advantage. The final result Kiama 5 sets to Southern Districts 2.
The Kiama side will need to really lift their game in the final this Sunday at Parramatta against the NSW Chinese team.
The George Fletcher Cup team is quietly confident of success after going through the competition undefeated. In the finals commencing at 9.00am at the Parramatta tennis centre an addition 4 sets are played making the final a 12 set battle.
